Total Body Fitness: Are You on the Right Track?

Total Body Fitness: Are you on the right track?

When it comes to getting your body in shape, there are several theories that you may come across on the subject. While some will ask you to focus on your diet, most of them would tell you to break the sweat at a gym nearby. Truth is, total body fitness cannot be achieved by focusing on just one of these elements. It is in fact, an ideal culmination of both allows you to live a life that is physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. According to Mark Walsh of Integration Training, physical fitness is far more than lifting weights, building strengths, and improving flexibility. Total body fitness also includes things like how strong your immune system is, whether your digestive system is functioning properly, and how well do you emotionally connect to your surroundings. Ideally, everything you do from sleeping, eating, and relaxing, to working out, meditating (if you do that), and maintaining overall grace, contributes to your overall levels of body fitness. When we talk about achieving optimal levels of physical health, the two core elements that dictate it are the diet we follow and the activity levels we have.

The food you eat has significant impact on your health. Everything from the slices of cheddar you hogged on for midnight snack to the fish and chips you enjoyed in the afternoon will either contribute to improving or worsening your overall level of fitness. Therefore it is extremely important to be careful about what you eat and how much of it you eat.

Men and women both require a daily supply of essential nutrients in recommended amounts to stay healthy. The table below outlines the ideal amount of nutrients to be consumed in a day by an average person.

Anything you consume in excess of your daily dietary requirements may accumulate in your body in the form of fat cells – unless you’re burning them off the smart way.

So what exactly could be the smart way to burn fat? According to Dr. Eric Serrano, fat cells can pretty much act like vacuum
cleaners. They can either remain stuck up in your body to pull in everything present in your bloodstream to add and build up more fat cells, or burn out as fuel to provide your body the energy it needs. Optimizing the fat cell function can consequently lead to the burning of fat stored in the body as fuel. There are two basic ways people can achieve that:

  • By shutting off receptors of fat storage
  • By optimizing the fat burning hormones

This process follows the same theme where you spike dietary fat to burn down the fat storage already present in the body. A number of people could be doing most of the things right when it comes to eating a healthy diet and working out; however, they might not necessarily be achieving the results they want. This is simply because there is a lot more than just diet and exercise that goes into the process.

Like we said earlier, total body fitness encompasses everything including your physical, mental, and emotional well being. Factors like your metabolism, stress levels, and genetics and even training routines can have a great impact on accelerating or decelerating the process of optimizing your body’s fat cell function. So when it comes to optimizing your fat cell function, the details to worry about are just too many to deal with without professional help. This is where the experts at DUO Chelsea can help you.

Of course working out is a great way to activate the burning of fat cells for fuel, but one needs to be careful about their training volume that may gave a negative impact on the collective set of hormones involved in the process. You need exercise, but in moderation.

Staying lean helps. It requires tons of discipline. The process includes combining nutrition and training in ideal moderation for your body type (strength, stamina, and resistance) to optimize your metabolism the right way. There is a plethora of workouts available including the increasingly popular high intensity interval training and weight training to help you build the muscle you need to stay lean and fit. Not many of you however, would have heard about one of my favourite’s German Volume Training.

Total Body Fitness

German Volume Training is a unique workout created back in the mid-70s to help weight-lifters shed extra body fat and develop lean muscles during off-season. The workout targets specific motor muscles of the body and exposes them to intense amounts of training, using the ten sets rule to help the trainers gain muscle.

Charles Poliquin has a great example of this program you can check out Here

Charles says “It’s brutally hard, but I’ve found it to be an effective way to pack on muscle fast! In strength-coaching circles, this method is often called the Ten Sets Method.”

Although this particular training style lost is charm once weightlifting took the backseat as one of the most popular sports of its time; it has proved to be fairly effective in helping people optimize their fat cell function and burn them for fuel required to undergo the extensive strength training required in this exercise.

Again, these exercises are not something one can easily perform on their own. They require moderation and supervision. That said, combining German Volume Training with a properly regulated diet can help you achieve total body fitness. It is however, extremely crucial to realize the importance of expert counsel when you opt for something as intense as this.

There are no two thoughts about the fact that fitness and exercise go hand in hand. To keep your body in shape you need to work it and sweat. However, things can get complicated when you pick a new exercises program that you are unsure if its suited for your body type or fitness requirements. This is when you need the personal training experts at Duo Chelsea. They will evaluate your overall fitness, design customized workout plans for you, and train you accordingly to ensure you stay on the right track when it comes to total body fitness.
